We
would like to make your first visit to the practice
as pleasurable as possible. You will be greeted by one
of our reception staff who will invite you to sit in
our comfortable waiting room. There is a selection of
hot beverages or mineral water for your enjoyment. Also
we have a wide variety of magazines and dental literature.
We
ask all new patients to try to arrive fifteen minutes
before their appointment. This allows time to fill in
some paperwork such as a confidential medical questionnaire
and a dental menu or wish-list. Our reception staff
will be able to help with this. Alternatively these
forms can be downloaded from this site and completed
prior to attending.
Once
in the surgery you can expect to undergo a thorough
dental examination. This includes the following aspects;
1. Examination of each tooth for signs of dental disease
such as tooth decay or gum disease.
2.
Oral cancer screen. A full examination is carried out
on the soft and hard tissues of the mouth for signs
of abnormalities. Unfortunately oral cancer is becoming
more common in this country and we have a policy of
thoroughly assessing our patients at each examination.
3.
Examination of the bite. This includes how the teeth
meet together, how they slide over one another and the
how the jaw joints are functioning.
4.
Any relevant x-rays that may be needed to aid in complete
diagnosis.
5.
Discussion of findings and the treatment options available.
This will include viewing of specific sites using an
intra-oral camera and the relevant x-rays. At that time
an estimate of treatment costs will be discussed and
an idea of the number and length of appointments given.
6.
A written estimate will be provided |

Appointments
can then be made to best suit the individual’s
requirements.
If
the treatment is of a complex nature, further information
such as photographs and study models may also need to
be taken at this first visit. It may be then necessary
to organise a subsequent appointment to discuss the
findings and potential treatment options. Prior to that
second visit, a written report may be sent directly
to the patient, allowing consideration of the findings.
At
all times during this first visit and through subsequent
appointments we endeavour to keep the patient fully
informed. We feel that this is of great importance in
allowing the patient to make a decision on what is the
best treatment for them. |
